Yeah, ok, so I’m a cynic.  Huge surprise, right?  But while I do appreciate the sentiment of Mother’s Day, I’m just not a huge fan of Hallmark Holidays.  I’m a mother every day, and I would much rather have my kids acknowledge that in little ways here and there than feel like they have to manufacture some gesture simply because someone designated the 2nd Sunday in May as the Day to Make Mom Feel Special.

The kids and the Scientist always ask me what I want to do for Mother’s Day and I never really have an answer, but this year I really wanted to go to a baseball game as a family.  We did that on Friday night and that was fun; they have fireworks after the games on Fridays, so it just made it a little more fun.  I got a few good shots, and hung out with my goofy kids.

Yesterday, the Scientist and I went up to May Fest in Pilot Mountain.  I got a few compliments on the pirate flag that covers the back of my wheelchair, and worked on my tan lines a bit more.  He hunted some geocaches, and I shot some pics, and we wound up having dinner at the same little Italian place we hit last weekend on the way home from Hanging Rock.

Today was actually more busy for me, despite the calendar saying that it’s my day off.  =)  I did take a lazy bubble bath this morning, but then ran errands, did laundry, fixed the kids’ laundry emergency, did a ton of ironing, vacuumed our room, baked some sweet potatoes to go with the Jamaican Jerk chicken that the Scientist was making for dinner, and also made some chocolate souffle cupcakes.  They were really good, but a little drier than they should’ve been.  It was 7:45 before I really sat down to chill again.

The Professor sprained her ankle practicing Irish dance out in the yard.  Grr.  One would think that dancing like that in uneven grass would be a bad move, yes?  Well, ya know, unless you’re the Professor.  She landed wrong and felt a *snap* and the swelling hit fast.  I wrapped it and braced it, and she’s on crutches for a few days.  Lovely.  At least, after tomorrow, she is done with school for a while.

Didn’t have too many issues with the “listening” rant from yesterday, but there were a few times when I felt like the Scientist was kind of “putting thoughts in my head” (as opposed to words in my mouth, ya know?).  We hit the highway and he put his windows up and flipped the A/C on, and said, “I’d be ok with the windows open, but I know you aren’t.”

*blink*

What?

Now, I have long hair, about to the middle of my back.  I personally, when I am behind the wheel, do not drive with the windows open because it blows my hair around so much that I can’t see.  However, if someone else is driving, it has never ever bothered me in the least if they have the windows open.  He’s known me for 20+ yrs and this has never been any different.  I could -not- for the life of me figure out where the hell that came from.  There were other examples of this periodically throughout the day, where he’d make some assumption about something that I supposedly thought/felt and I would be stunned, wondering what the hell just happened.

So, I dunno what that’s about, but honestly, I was having a pretty good day and just didn’t feel like starting the fight, ya know?
